Artist's Bio
Laura Kessler is originally from upstate New York. She has a bachelor's degree in fine arts and has exhibited in New York and England. In school she studied sculpture, working primarily with metal and found objects. She spent her final year in Manchester, England studying painting. Laura returned to Baltimore, MD where she worked aboard the tall ship the Clipper City and sailed to Florida. Afterwards, she worked aboard the Lettie G. Howard in Manhattan and sailed around the islands of Maine. While sailing, she adjusted her artistic medium to fit the confined space of the ships and wrote and illustrated 3 children's books. In 1999, she again returned to Baltimore where she interned with a silversmith and learned jewelry casting and stone setting. During this time, she also began painting silk. Later that year, Laura attended Starkey International Institute in Denver, CO and received a certificate in Household Management. Her love for the home and its care transcended into her artwork and she began painting silk pieces for home décor. Laura now lives in Portland, OR with her husband, Luis and continues with her custom designs for the home. |
